Primary School Podgorica
Conceptual Architectural Design for a Primary School
A competition entry for the conceptual architectural design of a primary school in City Kvart, Podgorica, Montenegro. The design features a warm terracotta-red palette that gives the school a distinctive, inviting identity. The building is organized as a series of stepped terraces that follow the site topography, creating sheltered outdoor learning spaces, generous courtyards, and integrated sports facilities. The landscaping blends the school into its residential neighborhood context.
Design Concept
The school is conceived as a landscape building — its stepped volumes create a series of accessible roof terraces that serve as outdoor classrooms and play areas. The terracotta-red materiality is both visually warm and practically durable, while referencing the Mediterranean building tradition of the region. The plan organizes classrooms along a central spine corridor with courtyards on both sides, ensuring every classroom has natural cross-ventilation and views to greenery. The sports facilities — including an outdoor running track and multi-purpose court — are positioned at the edge of the site, creating a buffer zone between the school and the residential buildings.
