Centar Municipality Admin Building
Administrative Building for Municipality of Centar
A competition entry for the conceptual design of the administrative building for the Municipality of Centar in Skopje. The modern glass-and-steel building responds to its sensitive historic urban context — situated between the Old Bazaar, Dame Gruev Street, and the city center. The design features a transparent ground floor for public services, green roof terraces that step down toward the historic quarter, and a contemporary facade that creates a dialogue between old and new Skopje.
Design Concept
The building mediates between two urban scales: the dense, fine-grained historic quarter to the north and the larger-scaled modern boulevard to the south. The massing steps down toward the Old Bazaar, with planted terraces creating a green transition. The glass facade reflects the surrounding context while allowing views into the civic functions within. At ground level, the building opens generously to a new public plaza, positioning citizen services at the most accessible point. The green roofs contribute to the building's environmental performance and create usable outdoor spaces for municipal staff.
