Aerodrom Public Space Interventions
Ground-Level Urban Landscape Design
An urban design project focused on revitalizing the ground-level public spaces between residential blocks in Aerodrom municipality, Skopje. The proposal introduces a system of new urban patterns, program cores, and green corridors that transform underused open spaces between socialist-era housing blocks into vibrant communal environments with seating areas, playgrounds, community gardens, and pedestrian connections.
Design Concept
The design strategy identifies three layers of intervention: new urban patterns that restructure the ground plane with defined surfaces and edges; new program cores that introduce specific activities and gathering points; and new designed elements including furniture, lighting, and planting. The interventions are calibrated to each specific courtyard context, responding to existing vegetation, building orientations, and pedestrian desire lines while maintaining the open, green character of the existing spaces.
