Aerodrom Municipality Building
Civic and Cultural Center
A civic building for the Municipality of Aerodrom in Skopje, featuring a distinctive curved form wrapped in vertical timber louvers. The design creates a welcoming public presence with a transparent and accessible ground floor, an expressive exterior public staircase, and a louvered screen that filters natural light while giving the building a warm, tactile quality. The curved geometry generates an intimate public plaza at the building's entrance.
Design Concept
The building's curved plan form creates a dynamic relationship with its corner site, generating a sheltered public plaza at the entrance. The timber-louver envelope acts as a unifying skin that wraps continuously around the curved volume, providing solar shading, visual privacy where needed, and a strong architectural identity. The public staircase expressed on the exterior invites citizens up through the building, blurring the boundary between public space and institutional interior. The ground floor is maximally transparent, with the civic functions floating above on the upper levels.
